Kickabout's Future
KICKABOUT - A 2D Soccer Game » Devlog
I've been working on Kickabout for a long time, but there's a massive gap between what I've released and what I have still developing. Every feature is getting revamped, UI is improving, bugs are getting squashed, but it's just simply not ready for release. So, while I continue to slowly work on Kickabout, here's a list of things to expect when it's done:
- Fake Players/Names
- I don't want to release this game and get hounded by FIFPro or something, so I'll be using fake names and stuff.
- Attribute and Talents Revamp
- Sometimes 1-10(and sometimes 11) isn't good enough when your comparing the dribbling ability of Messi, Pele, and Maradona, so I'm using a 1-100(+1-50) range for attribute numbers.
- Talents used to be very hard to manipulate for me in Unity because of the way I made it, so, after learning a lot, I revamped that, too. Talents are similar to Badges in 2K, or PlayStyles in FIFA; they increase a player's ability in doing a specific thing, each player can have multiple, and they have multiple tiers. FIFA has 2 tiers of PlayStyles, while 2K has just made Badges have 5 tiers, so I originally made each Talent have 4, but I recently reduced the tiers to 3(not in the available release).
- Player Cards/DNA
- This isn't implement yet into Kickabout, but the idea is that you collect players' DNA, which gives you access to their different Cards. You unlock their DNA and Cards by doing objectives in-game, like visiting the Training screen for example. You'd go back to the Main Menu and claim the card/DNA with a quick pack opening thing.
- More FIFA inspiration. It's not in the available release, but I made cool mini player cards that display some info for each player in DNA Selection. When you click on them, it reveals a bigger card on the side with all the details, kinda like Ultimate Team.
- Improved UI
- Pretty self explainatory. I've gotten better at animations and making sleek UI(I still have a ways to go, but that's okay), so expect an improvement. Just like everything else in this game, it's inspired heavily off EA.
- Stat-Tracking In-Game
- Proper tracking of actions and statistical analysis is lowkey hard to code. I have to track just about every collision with the ball, determine what is happening, then figure out what to do with that information. The ending game screen is very mediocre a the moment, so I'm hoping to add to the gameplay with this.
That is about it for now. I don't have a bunch of time to work the game, but it's coming around. Hopefully I can release this before April.
